Victoria Gau, conductor

Signs of Life: Music and Healing

Osvaldo Golijov, Three Songs for Soprano and Strings
Alan Hovhaness, Avak the Healer
Russell Peck, Signs of Life II

TICKETS

This program takes the listener on a musical journey from loss and despair, as explored in Golijov's intense and hauntingly beautiful songs, to the mystical exploration of the steps from loss to light by Alan Hovhaness, and finally the life-embracing music of Russell Peck, a composer who also had a deeply felt mission to make the world a better place.

The Boston Globe called Laura Choi Stuart "a lyric soprano of ravishing quality". Fanfare Magazine proclaimed Chris Gekker to be "a trumpeter who is able to produce meltingly flutelike tones at one extreme, and to bring the house down at the other". Come see why these are two of our favorite artists!

Takoma Ensemble: Peanut Butter & Jam Session

January 30, 2016 at 4:00pm

Peanut Butter & Jam Sessions are designed for children ages 1 1/2 to 7 and their accompanying grown-ups. These informal concerts encourage young children to become active and enthusiastic listeners through music, movement, and games.

In this session, we will explore FEELINGS. For the young child, navigating and understanding feelings can be quite a complicated task! Our feelings range from great excitement and joy to sadness and anger and all that’s in between.

Join a String Quintet from the Takoma Ensemble and Kindermusik educator, Becky Linafelt, on a musical journey through the varied landscape of FEELINGS.

Stay for snacks after the performance!

A $10 per child donation is suggested.
